News Local Sheriff's authorities have one man in custody after a shooting in Middle Point left an 18 year old senior at Lincolnview High School dead and a small town and school reeling and asking why.

Van Wert County 911 received a call at approximately 7:20 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2005 reporting a shooting at 201 East Jackson Street in Middle Point. A number of deputies responded to the area, as well as Middle Point EMS. On arrival in the area, deputies found Richard C. (R.C.) Moore pacing up and down the street one block west of the shooting scene. Moore peacefully surrendered to the deputies and was placed in custody.

Deputies then proceeded to the 201 East Jackson Street residence, secured the area and allowed EMS from Middle Point in to the area, where they found 18 year old Jessica N. Moore lying outside in a pool of blood behind the garage. Brickner EMS arrived a short time later and Miss Moore was transported to Van Wert County Hospital with two gunshots, one to the chest and one to the left side of the head. Miss Moore was pronounced dead at 8:07 a.m. at the hospital. An autopsy will be conducted on Miss Moore's body at the Lucas County Coroner's office in Toledo.

Mr. Moore was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility for allegedly shooting his adopted daughter and will be charged later with one count of murder.

Students at Lincolnview High School were left in shock as rumors circulated as to who the victim was until it was officially confirmed. Several students spoke of Miss Moore as a pleasant and helpful young person. Counseling was available on Thursday and will continue on Friday for students who need to discuss her death.

The investigation continues in to the reasons leading to the shooting and there is no word yet on when Mr. Moore will make his initial appearance in Court.
